Frequently Asked Questions

How much does counseling cost?

Each therapist  sets their own fees. But in general, you can expect your 50 minute sessions for individuals to cost between $100 and $200.  Counseling for couples and families generally are at the higher end of our fee scale.

If you are using your health insurance for mental health counseling, your co-pay will likely be in the range of $20-$40 per session. You may pay that by check or credit card at the start of each session.

We suggest that you call your insurance company to check what your policy will cover.

Do you offer any discounts for cash?

In most cases it is not possible to offer a discount, as that may violate the terms of our contracts with various insurance companies. But if you are unemployed, without insurance, or otherwise in a difficult financial situation, be sure to discuss what options there may be with your counselor.

Do  you take insurance?  Medicare? EAP?

Each therapist is contracted with a number of different insurance companies. It is likely that your carrier is one of them.

Some of us are also associated with a few Employee Assistance Programs. Be sure to ask when you email or call for an appointment if your EAP is one of them.

and other major health care insurance providers. We can also take HSA cards.

Can I pay by credit card or check?

Yes, you can pay your co-pay or entire session by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express.  We also take checks or cash.

All co-pays are due at the time of your session.

What happens if I miss an appointment?

If you call more than 24 hours prior to your appointment to reschedule, your therapist may try to get you on their calendar for the same week, and there is no charge for the missed / changed appointment. We recommend that you request appointment changes as seldom as possible and only for illness or unexpected work demands because consistency helps you make faster progress.

When you schedule an appointment, you are financially obligated for that time.  If you simply forget your appointment and haven't called to reschedule, you are expected to pay for the missed session. We have this policy to help you take your mental health care seriously.

Can I call or text you between sessions?

Our counselors vary in their preferences for communicating with clients between sessions. In most cases, we encourage you to call and leave a voicemail if you will missed your appointment, because texting can be unreliable. Ask your counselor about their individual policy on this.

Due to the confidential and in depth nature of psychotherapy, we cannot engage in counseling with you over the phone. We suggest that you make a note of your questions, or insights that have occurred between sessions, and bring them with you for discussion at your next appointment.
